Realistic Checklist – 2019

It’s going to be a shorter post but its a great post. A little off my writing/book theme, but you know. My usual routine will return. So the end of the year is near, so I decided to give you a checklist of all the things I plan on doing the year of 2019.

  1. Donate Blood. I have been avoiding doing this for the longest time.
  2.  Go to a concert whether it be Lauren Daigle or King and Country.
  3. Travel. I will really be traveling to local cities and have adventures there. If I am lucky, maybe places that are up to seven hours to drive from home. I am basically broke bookworm/writer and visiting Europe is the last thing I need to do to break the bank. 🙂
  4. Do something spontaneous like ziplining or skydiving.
  5. Volunteer whether it be at a local animal center, library, etc.
  6. Take a self-defense class.
  7. Expand my wardrobe. Transform to that edgy boho style.

Only seven things, why? I will actually do them, shockingly enough. I made a resolution of this year and failed greatly. I have learned from that lesson. Thanks for reading.

Houk’s Society Episode 2

Welcome back to Episode 2 of Houk’s Society.

I was just a girl who was stolen from my native land. A girl who was too clueless about the outside world. A girl who was hidden from the lust of men’s eyes. A girl who worshipped Him who created me. A girl who was taken from her parents. A girl who will never see peace ever again. Hi, my name is Emma and this is my story.

My name is Emma and I am the main protagonist of Heart of Stone. I was taken away by a barbaric lord named Matthew. He and his crew arrived in my land to find treasures but instead, they found me a girl who was only seeking out water to my papa and mother. His eyes had already sealed my fate when I first saw him. Bargaining my family with a lifetime of food and money just so he could have me. I wanted to help my parents since we were poor. My father agreed and we were married the night before I left. I never saw my parents again.

For years I lived with Matthew, obeying his every command as a wife should. But slowly I realized why he took me. I was a treasure itself. I was born with platinum blonde hair. I guess in his country I was rare. I became their new object to look at. I was not noticed as a normal person. Just the beautiful wife of Matthew. I had strict restrictions and I was barely seen in court.

Let’s begin my book review:

Title: London in the Dark

Genre: Christian Fiction, Historial Fiction, Mystery

Synopsis:

London, 1910

Budding Private Detective Cyril Arlington Hartwell has a conundrum. London is being ravaged by the largest run of thefts in recent history. His hunch that it is all tied together may put him and those he loves in more danger than he could have reckoned.

Olivia Larken Hartwell is just home from boarding school for the summer anticipating time with her adoring parents. She misses her absent brother, Cyril, hoping for the day he will finally come home. But tragedy strikes, causing upheaval for all concerned and changes her life in a way she never could have imagined.

Olivia, Cyril, and their friends must bring the hidden to light, seek to execute justice, and dispel the darkness that hovers over London… and their hearts.

Author bio:

Victoria Lynn is in her 20s and if she’s not writing, she is probably sewing, singing, playing the piano, washing dishes, creating something with her hands, or learning something new. She has a passion for serving her Creator, encouraging others and being creative. She blogs at www.rufflesandgrace.com about writing, fashion, modesty, her walk with God and life. She lives in Michigan with her parents and 8 siblings.

The book itself has a Sherlock Vibe. Since there is a detective (Cyril) and doctor (Dudley) and a landlady (Mrs.Hobbs).  It felt slow in the beginning but then the {spoiler removed} happened helped a lot.  At times, I really wanted to choke Cyril. One word to describe each character:

Olivia: Faithful

Cyril: Moody

Dudley: Kind-hearted

Mrs. Hobb: Caring

Favorite Quotes:

Cyril folded his arm and rested the side of his head against the window of the swiftly moving train. The faint light of early dawn illuminated the countryside just enough to make it a dizzy blur as it passed by his sight. (p. 223, Kindle Edition) Love the description.

As she plunged into the song, her fingers traveled over the keys at a rapid pace, tinkling out the lovely scales and melodies. She lost herself in the music, drowning in the special feeling of creating something beautiful. (p. 24, Kindle Edition)

Book Rating: 4.5

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean mysteries.

Thanks for Reading! 🙂

Book Review: Beasts of Extraordinary Circustance

IMG_20180312_100013_097.jpg

Welcome back, Y’all. Last week, I read this beautiful book. You guys should check out Book of the Month.  You can pick one new hardback book each month. The great thing about is that your first book when you join is free. Each extra book cost $9.99.

Title: Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstances

Author: Ruthie Emmie Lang

Genre: Fantasy Fiction, Magical Realism

Summary: The narrators of this story are those who have encountered the main character, Weylyn Grey.  Weylyn who is raised by wolves learns he is so much different than everybody else. He discovers he can control the weather by stopping a tornado in Oklahoma single handlely. Through the book, he learns new things about himself that is a blessing but a danger to those he cares for.

So to get things started. The main reason, I bought this book was because I usually don’t read books with magic realism in it. The book itself had a “Disney” Jungle book vice to it. It’s quite interesting. There really isn’t magic involved in the book so if you are against witchcraft. You can read it without worry. I was considerately happy with this story because it had little romance and little language which is hard to find in most books nowadays. I can’t wait to read more books by her.

My book rating: Five Stars, A new favorite

Hope you enjoyed reading this book review. Comment below what book I should review next.

Thanks for reading!

Reader Problems Book Tag

1. You have 20,000 books in your TBR, how in the world do you decide what to read next?

It really depends on what mood I have.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you put it down or are you committed?

It depends on why I dislike it. Death boring, I will continue reading. Cursing or inappropriate scenes, it’s a no go.

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re behind on your reading challenge, do you try to catch up? And if so, how?

I will try. I will read short books, ebooks, children’s books, or whatever I can get my hands on.

4. The covers of a series you love do not match, how do you cope?

I will survive. It really depends if its a paperback vs hardback.

5. Everyone and their mother loves a book that you do not. Who do you bond with over your shared feelings?

Find someone. Look through Pinterest, they has to be someone who has the same opinion.

6. You’re reading a book in public and you’re about to start crying. How do you deal?

I have never cried for any fictional situation so I wouldn’t know. Don’t judge me.

7. The sequel to a book you loved just came out but you’ve forgotten a lot of what happens. Are you going to reread it?

It really depends how thick the first book is. At times, I don’t care about the first book. I just want to read the sequel.

8. You do not want anyone to borrow your books, how do you politely say no when someone asks?

Sorry, I would love to share my books but I miss already when I am not home. I will continuously text you making sure my babies are safe. It’s safer still in case something happens.  You might disappear from the face of this earth.

9. You have picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over this reading slump?

I will read from a different genre.

10. There are so many books coming out that you are dying to read, how many do you end up buying?

All of them, if I had the money for it. Usually five or anything under $100.

11. After you purchase all of these books that you’re dying to read how long do they sit on your shelves before you get to them?

It really depends. If I am already reading something, I will wait until I finish the book. Or I will dive right into the books.

The plague of wanderlust

Have you experienced that great urge to travel? Imagining your toes between the sands of a foreign beach? Ziplining through the forbidden jungle? I know I can’t be the only one. The only problem is that you are broke. Or have no idea where to begin? Me, too.

Since I have no idea where to begin. Let me explain. One of my dreams is to become a world traveler. A very unrealistic dream, I know. Even a travel blogger would be nice but still clueless about what God’s plan for me is; I just had to be content with what I have right in front of me.

 Image from Tumblr

^ .^ this picture is so cool. It would make a cool travel tattoo. But enough of that. I am getting off topic.

I have decided to mention several places where I hope to travel to since visiting every country is unrealistic. Unless somehow, I become a bestseller author which still seems impossible.

Readers: Its still off topic.

Me: Fine.

One of the first travel experiences, I hope to have is to go to Nashville, Tennessee. If you know me, I love country music. The Grand Old Opry, Country Hall of Fame, Parthenon,  Music City Tiny House etc. You get the idea.

The Grand Ole Opry, an American icon and Nashville, Tennessee’s number-one attraction, is world-famous for creating one-of-a-kind entertainment experiences for audiences of all ages.  The Grand Ole Opry promotes the music of everyone from senior citizens Jimmy Dickens and Jean Shepard to hotshot youngsters Dierks Bentley, Trace Adkins and Brad Paisley. This multi-generational approach has served the show well for more than 80 years. It is one reason why the Opry can say with pride that it is "Th(image from Pinterest)

I really want to go to the Redwood forest. Its another dream of mine. I actually got a brochure from them after doing an assignment from my English textbook, Rod, and Staff.

Indonesia: The culture, animals, and landscape Everything, really. I love it. I really want to see Komodo dragons up close. I know its really dangerous but I really want to.

Bali, Indonesia (want to go) www.villapantaibali.com Don't forget when traveling that electronic pickpockets are everywhere. Always stay protected with an Rfid Blocking travel wallet. https://igogeer.com for more information. #igogeer(image from Pinterest)

Of course, I pick one of most expensive places to go, Japan and no its not because of Pokemon. Ok, maybe it is.

To this. Love the landscape and Mount Fuji.

Life got even better. Owl Cafes exist in Japan. I LOVE OWLS.

Owl Cafes Exist In Japan, Which Is Yet Another Reason To Move There Immediately/ A number have sprung up over the past year, in Tokyo and Osaka.

My heritage is in Scotland and Ireland. So of course, I want to go my ancestor’s land.

How to impress a girl

Since Valentine’s day is just around the corner, I decided to give you advice on how to impress a girl. Share this with all dudes.  It’s for your safety, men.

1) Please don’t call a girl hot. She is not a temperature. She is human. Show some respect.

2) Girls have to be modest. Doesn’t mean you have to be immodest. Be modest in your clothing choices.

3) When talking to a girl, don’t talk about yourself. Let her know that you care about her needs too.

4) Don’t be afraid to talk with the girl’s friends. Even if what they are talking about makes no sense.

5) Be respectful to other people.

6) Don’t be ugly to other people in front of her.

7) Use common sense.

8) If you think you are going to have a future with a girl, show her that you can handle kids. Hang out with kids.

9) Be honest. Please if you like her, tell her. Please. I am begging you.

10) Whatever you do, don’t respond negatively if a girl asks you, “Do I look fat in his dress?” or “Do I look pretty” or whatever. Unless you really want your eyeballs to be scratched out.

11) Never compare women with other women. If you do, you can say goodbye to that girl.

12) Never ever talk about your ex, or girls you used to like. Just don’t go there.

13) Finally never, ever, never, ever, etc. Tell a girl that she dresses like your mom. Not to be rude but just don’t do it. Or you can say goodbye forever.
